Correspondence, reports, expense vouchers, receipts, and statements relating to administration of the U.S. Marshal's office. The bulk of the correspondence is incoming and relates to administration, criminal cases and investigations, and judicial proceedings. Criminal cases involve adultery,Prohibition, Chinese exclusion, and customs and immigration cases. Financial records include Deputies' expenses, support of prisoners, fees of witness and jurors and costs involved in the prosecution of defendants in the Wham payroll robbery, 1889, and ledgers documenting financial transactions of Marshals William K. Meade, 1885-1890, and Robert H. Paul, 1890-1893. Legal materials include deputies' oaths of office, 1868-1910, and marshal's dockets, 1924-1925.
